GEO BLUE PLANET 5TH SYMPOSIUM

GEO Blue Planet held its 5th Symposium between 24 and 28 October 2022. For the first time, this signature GEO Blue Planet event took place in Africa, in Accra, Ghana. 181 participants from 16 different countries attended the Symposium.

10 European SMEs were invited to present their work at the Geo Blue Planet 5th Symposium.
The Symposium featured:

  • A session dedicated to Copernicus private sector opportunities with pitches from 20 Ghanaian and the European (SMEs) using Earth observation. This session highlighted private sector opportunities using Copernicus-based products in support of a sustainable blue economy.
  • Trainings on coastal and ocean observations. These training sessions were geared towards introducing ocean and coastal observations to a wider audience. The participants attended these sessions were mainly from research organisations and universities, but also end users from sectoral stakeholders, NGO representatives and Ghanaian public agencies.
  • 5 thematic workshops aimed to strength linkages between local/regional sectoral end-users and Earth Observation data providers on fisheries, monitoring marine litter, Sargassum, and coastline changes.
