COPERNICUS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

One of the main achievements of this action was the creation of an "Copernicus interactive module" that was specially designed for this action.

COPERNICUS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE is a collaborative project initiated by the CNES, involving members of Copernicus Academy and Copernicus Relay in France (AEROCAMPUS Aquitaine, URISA), public authorities (National Education) and industrial players in the space sector (Ariane Group, Airbus Defence and Space, Telespazio) through the construction and dissemination of an interactive and fun module that can make young people aware of their careers, the trades related to COPERNICUS in the field of space observation in particular.

One of the main achievements of this action was the creation of an "Copernicus interactive module" that was specially designed for this action (see photos).

The main targets are youth aged 10 to 17 from all social backgrounds, secondary Institutions, youth Social Centres and Associations, youth educators (true ambassadors to youth in search of vocation).

This action has two main objectives:

  • The first one concerns the education of 10-17 years old who are thinking about their careers in COPERNICUS or related trades. The main goal of developing an interactive and fun module is a better knowledge of the Copernicus program and the opportunities that earth observation can bring in different industries and sectors.
  • The second objective is also to support young people from different economic and social backgrounds to pursue space careers.

The main achievements are:

  • The creation of an "Copernicus interactive module" that was specially designed for this action.
  • Making Copernicus known: What is it, how does it work?
  • Existing and future applications
  • Job profiles and studies leading to them
  • Testable module in Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region and providing for replication in other European Regions of the NEREUS network
  • As a whole, since beginning of this year 2023, more than 503 children and 179 educators tested the module Copernicus during events.
